It will probably work just like it does in CS:S. However, if the server has its own custom material, it will probably overwrite it while for the time your on that server. However, I'm not sure completely.

Very Carefully...
No but just extract the folder and put the file in the addons section of the gmod folder, kinda like css. just go to C:>Program files>Steam>steamapps>your steam name>garrysmod>garrysmod>addons :D
